Growing
up in the Hunter Valley my time was divided between living in town and
our weekends and holidays returning to our family heritage, where my
great grandparents owned the secluded Bombah Point guesthouse on the
pristine waters of the Myall Lakes.
As a child I spent hours
collecting shells, seeds, gum and oak nuts and fossils from the
lakeshore and beach combing. I then made these into jewellery and other
trinkets.
After leaving school I
worked in medical research as a laboratory
technician. However with a desire to travel, I set off to explore the
four
corners of the globe. Parts of my journey led me to remote destinations.
My
fascination for jewellery was reignited after seeing a variety of
gemstones
mined and pearls grown, also some interesting native tribal adornments.
A few years after returning home I began making up some of the treasures
I
had collected, into jewellery for myself with a unique fusion of colour
and
textures.
People began commenting
on my unusual jewellery and started placing orders.
This led to my hobby becoming a full time business. My travels and
passion
for exotic materials from the ocean and earth, gave me inspiration for
my
business name, as bohemien is the French word for gypsy.
Never content being one
of the crowd in anything mass produced and with my
appreciation of all styles from classical through to opulent hippie
inspires
me to create beautiful quality jewellery that is timeless in it’s
appeal.
Quite often one of my unique works of art is worn again and again
becoming
my clients signature piece.
